Mountain Bike

Cut off time Woolshed Creek carpark: 12:00pm
Bikes will be ferried back from Woolshed Creek to the finish line at Staveley.
Compulsory gear: All duathlon athletes must carry a day pack with the following compulsory equipment: (clothing must fit the competitor) Spare polypropylene/wool top and hat (unless worn), Waterproof jacket (unless being worn), Food and drink, First aid kit which must contain: a roll of 5cm width crepe bandage, a roll of 2cm strapping tape, 10 band aid strips, a triangular bandage, small scissors, a survival blanket and a map of the area if they have not been through the course before. Plus a puncture repair kit, pump and adequate nutrition and hydration for the whole course. There will be a drop box at the transition to drop and/or pick up gear.
The Multi-Mission will begin with a 28km Mountain Bike. The bike begins from the start/finish point of Staveley. Athletes will follow Rutherfords Road from Staveley. After approximately 2.5km they will meet the historic Rangitata Diversion Race, athletes will ride alongside the banks of this until they meet Prices Road. On Prices Road they will cycle west to Cox’s Road and then enter the private property of Mt Somers Station. Athletes will follow farm tracks from this point climbing over Fagan Hill. Station riding will be made up of fast (and slow) 4WD tracks.
The 3800ha station has been in the Acland family since 1856. Today it farms deer, sheep, beef stock and bees! Riders will flow through sections of tussock land, and beech forest, with a few ‘pinchy’ climbs to keep all riders honest. The track will eventually meet Jig Road which they will follow to transition in Woolshed Creek carpark.
